Hi, my name is Jan and I'm from that one country in Europe called Germany.
Imagine if new france still existed, not as a colony but like as a country that eventually developed it’s own economy and identity and then declared independence.
And then there’d be this big indigenous country in the middle, and then a little american country, then probably a spanish-influenced country in the west.
It’s weird when you remember that the political boundaries of countries are really just imaginary, and there’s nothing definitive about how these physical shapes were divided up.
history and cartography are both a lot more interesting than people think.
and old maps are cool
Using knives, tweezers and surgical tools, Brian Dettmer carves one page at a time. Nothing inside the out-of-date encyclopedias, medical journals, illustration books, or dictionaries is relocated or implanted, only removed.
Fuck me sideways, this man has some serious talent. I can’t get over how detailed these are!!
